Our Facilities

Hillcrest High School has the privilege of being situated in a very beautiful and lush residential, upper highway area in KwaZulu-Natal. We have worked hard to ensure that our facilities match this excellence, to offer the best possible opportunity for our students to excel in their chosen sporting activities, whilst still maintaining the offer of significant value-for-money to students and parents.

ICT Department

The school has two fully-equipped computer rooms for student use with additional PCs available in the media centre. Most classrooms are equipped with a digital projector and the entire school has Wi-Fi coverage.

All students have access to the computer facilities during breaks and after school in a controlled environment. Students are encouraged to register their personal devices such as smart phones, tablets and laptops so that they can access their data and the internet via Wi-Fi during classes with the express permission of their teachers. Systems and hardware are constantly being upgraded or replaced to keep pace with the rapid advances in these areas.

Victor Daitz Science Laboratories

A generous grant from the Victor Daitz Foundation has enabled the school to upgrade the science laboratories into a state of the art facility.

Media Department

The Media Centre is situated on the first floor and houses a computerised collection of 13 000 items comprising books, audio visual material, magazines and newspapers. It has been awarded the ELITS Prize for best High School Library. It now has Wi-Fi access for pupils, electrical power pyramids for laptops, tablets and other devices, as well as thirty six computers. The library is open during lesson times for classes, as well as during both breaks and after school for homework, reading and research. The Chess Team – PADSSA winners for the last 4 consecutive years, and 7x winners  - practices, has training and plays tournaments in the library.

Drama Department

The Cage Theatre provides the students with a space where they can hone their many talents in the large rehearsal area. It is in this space where supper theatres are held to showcase the best of student work done throughout the year. A hub of creativity and madness, the Cage is the place to be.

Art Department

Hillcrest High School is immensely proud of the quality of art produced by its many talented students and, in particular, of the outstanding matric results achieved each year. Two large art studios, situated above The Cage Theatre, cater for both the novice and advanced student.

The Kingfisher Room

The Kingfisher Room, an entertainment/small conference venue, is located above the sports change rooms on the main sports field. This venue is also used to host visiting headmasters and their staff at major sporting events at our school.

Past students are also able to book this room for reunions – if you are interested, contact marketing@hhs.co.za.

Current Sports facilities

Hillcrest High School owns and maintains several sporting fields. Off Schools road, we have our main field which supports our senior rugby, cricket and soccer team training. In addition we have a main hockey field, as well as a third “B-field” which supports junior rugby, cricket and soccer. We are also fortunate, to own an additional field off Inanda Road, which is used for soccer, cricket and hockey, as well as softball. Additionally, we have our Belvedere field, off Shortlands Avenue, which is also used for soccer and hockey.
Hillcrest High School is very thankful for its existing facilities, which are maintained by a dedicated team. These include :
• two Tennis courts,
• a 25m Swimming Pool
• 3 Netball courts
• a mini-Astro (incorporating hockey, netball and softball training)
• indoor Badminton facilities

In addition, Hillcrest High school supports several other sports, which their students continue to excel in, including equestrian, fencing and long-boarding.

We are very excited that we were able to complete the construction of our new Multi-Purpose Indoor Centre (MPC) during the course of 2020. The purpose of the MPC facility will be to ensure good, solid, all-round sporting excellence for the entire school, and not necessarily just for the “extremely good sportsperson”. We aim to elevate the profile and exposure of a healthy and active lifestyle for all. The centre will provide direct opportunities for a variety of key sporting codes, viz cricket (both batting and fielding skills); hockey; netball; badminton; basketball; volleyball; indoor soccer; gym (strength, conditioning, kettle bells); aerobics (e.g. zumba). In addition, we see this as an excellent opportunity to work in partnership with local businesses and the local community, providing a space for commercial offices (i.e. physio, biokineticist) a privatised gym facility, as well as a centre that can be used by both the school and community for functions, teacher-parent interaction, entrepreneurial development and past-pupil involvement.

In addition to the Sports facilities, Hillcrest High School has a range of impressive facilities for its students to enjoy.
